Veron focused on victory over Colombia

Juan Sebastian Veron has insisted that a win will be all that matters when Argentina face Colombia in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Buenos Aires on Saturday.

The former Manchester United midfielder said that the Albicelestes are still trying to discover their best form under coach Diego Maradona but are determined to bounce back after their 6-1 loss at Bolivia in their last outing in April.

Said Veron to TyC Sports cable channel: "Finding our best form is difficult because there is little time to work. The most important thing is to win and we must focus on doing whatever is necessary to get it. After we secure a result, we'll work on the form of the team."

The Estudiantes midfielder is aware of how important a win is with Colombia lying sixth in the South American qualifying group, five points below fourth-placed Argentina.

"If we win on Saturday, we'll push Colombia down a little bit as they are one of the teams who are fighting for qualification below us," he said. "The people will only be happy when we qualify for the World Cup so I hope that on Saturday we'll play our best football."

The 34-year-old Veron wants to play in South Africa next year but knows that the decision is down to others.

"Earning the coach's confidence is important and I am the person who must take advantage of that chance," he said. "It depends on me not to fail the coach and I must take advantage of my chances in football."

Estudiantes goalkeeper Mariano Andujar will make his international debut after his superb form in the league relegated Lazio's Juan Pablo Carrizo to the bench.

Said Veron of his teammate: "Mariano and I have been talking for quite a long time. It is obviously a very important moment for him and I wish him well because I think he deserves it.

"His form has been good for a long time and the coach is giving him the opportunity. It comes at a great moment for him."
