Chelsea striker Drogba keen to sign new contract

Didier Drogba has said he wants to sign a new contract and stay at Chelsea for as long as the club wants him.

The £24m striker has only one year left on his current deal and risks being sold in the summer following his foul-mouthed rant after the Blues' Champions League elimination, with Inter Milan and Real Madrid keen to take him away from Stamford Bridge.

The Ivory Coast star has come under pressure for various incidents this season and has had to deal with constant speculation over his future - with the club linked on Sunday with moves for Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.

However, the Blues' striker said in the Daily Mirror: "I believe the future of Chelsea will be splendid because we have created something for which many want to come here.

"They know that when they come here every year they have to fight to win trophies.

"This club was already historical but it will become even more so. I'm so proud to be a part of it and want to stay as long as they want me."

The 31-year-old hitman has claimed 10 goals in 33 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League in 2008-2009.
