Gary Neville included in Capello's England squad

Gary Neville has received a surprise England recall for the World Cup double-header against Kazakhstan and Andorra next month.

The veteran full-back has endured an injury-plagued two years and although he did feature in Manchester United's victory at Hull this afternoon is not expected to start Wednesday's Champions League final against Barcelona.

However, Fabio Capello has opted to bring the United skipper back into the fold for the first time since he replaced Steve McClaren 18 months ago.

The rest of Capello's squad is in line with what had been expected, meaning no place for Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha.

Fellow blue Shaun Wright-Phillips is included though after coming through today's victory over Bolton with no reaction to a knee problem that was supposed to require surgery this summer.

Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole, who were both injured during the friendly win over Slovakia and therefore missed the subsequent victory over the Ukraine at Wembley last month, are back, with Jermain Defoe also selected in attack after a three-match absence through injury.

Theo Walcott, who dislocated his shoulder in training prior to the friendly win over Germany in Berlin last November, also returns, as does Ashley Young, who featured in the following match against Spain in Seville, which ended in defeat.

Capello's major problems seem to be in the goalkeeping department, where David James and Ben Foster have been ruled out with shoulder and thumb problems respectively.

West Ham's Robert Green has emerged as first-choice and with Joe Hart ruled out because he has lost his place at Manchester City to Shay Given, Paul Robinson is recalled along with Scott Carson, who has just been relegated with West Brom.

Carson (West Brom); Green (West Ham); Robinson (Blackburn).

Bridge (Man City), A Cole (Chelsea), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Johnson (Portsmouth), Lescott (Everton), Neville (Man Utd), Terry (Chelsea), Upson (West Ham); Barry (Aston Villa).

Beckham (LA Galaxy), Carrick (Man Utd), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), Walcott (Arsenal), Wright-Phillips (Man City), Young (Aston Villa).

C Cole (West Ham), Crouch (Portsmouth), Defoe (Tottenham), Heskey (Man Utd), Rooney (Man Utd).
