NEW YORK -- New York Red Bulls midfielder Jorge Rojas has been fined $1,000 and suspended two games by the MLS.
Rojas failed to leave the field in a timely and orderly manner after being issued a red card in the Red Bulls' game May 16 against the Houston Dynamo.
The league's disciplinary committee also fined Real Salt Lake defender Ian Joy $500 on Wednesday for inappropriate comments directed at the officiating crew at halftime of RSL's game versus the Kansas City Wizards that same day.
Rojas received a red card for violent conduct in the 34th minute of the match last Saturday night; the red card carries a one-game suspension and $250 fine. The disciplinary committee's review concluded the contact by Rojas to the head of Dynamo midfielder Brian Mullan was egregious and endangered the safety of the opponent. The committee hit Rojas with another $250 fine for that.
The committee also fined Rojas $500 and suspended him an additional game for failure to immediately leave the field following the red card, bringing the total fine to $1,000 and the suspension to two games.
Rojas will miss games against Chicago on May 24 and Colorado on May 30.
