Brown plans another away day ahead of finale

Hull boss Phil Brown is prepared to whisk his players away again this week as their battle for survival goes down to the wire.

Brown took his squad on a two-day retreat to the Lake District last week to focus minds on the fight to stay in the Premier League.

The response was positive as Hull ended a run of five successive defeats to lift themselves out of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw at Bolton.

It was a game the Tigers dominated and should have won but after just two victories in 28 outings Brown was pleased enough with the turnaround.

Their fate now hinges on a tricky last-day encounter against champions Manchester United but they at least have the insurance of a point advantage over the bottom three.

Brown felt the short getaway worked wonders and when asked if he was considering it again, he said: "Yes. We got out of the headlights a little bit and tried to relax, but it is difficult.

"It is something we had planned a few weeks ago and it was on hold until it was necessary. It was necessary last week and I felt it was very beneficial.

"A lot of people have suggested it was a boot camp but it was quite simple - it was a place in the Lakes that has no signal, so you can't get your mobile phone to work.''

With United having now secured the title, there have been suggestions that Sir Alex Ferguson will field an under-strength side at the KC Stadium as he turns attention to the Champions League final.

Yet Brown is still not anticipating any favours and said: "There won't be any easy game next week, it will be tough.

"We have to put in a performance. We have got to commit ourselves to every tackle, every inch to try to get something from the game from the champions.

"We're still in it and we've still got a chance coming into the last game of the season. It will be a tough preparation, a tough week but the rewards are great.''
