Bordeaux's Blanc: We don't have the advantage

Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc denies his team's stunning run of wins gives them the advantage over Marseille in the Ligue 1 title race.

Les Girondins clinched their seventh victory on the trot by beating Sochaux 3-0 at the Stade Chaban-Delmas last night, allowing them to move level on 68 points with OM at the summit.

The Mediterraneans, who drew 2-2 with Toulouse on Saturday, stay top because they have a superior goal difference but Bordeaux are undoubtedly the form team heading into the final four matches of the campaign.

However, Blanc said: "We have no psychological advantage over the others.

"We have had the chance to benefit from a run of victories but we need to carry this on as long as possible and think about recovering, both physically and mentally."

Sunday's match was Bordeaux's third in the space of eight days.

The previous weekend, they thrashed Vannes OC 4-0 in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue and on Wednesday they secured a last-gasp 3-2 success at Rennes even though they played the majority of the game with 10 men following Marc Planus' red card.

Les Girondins overcame Planus' suspension and injuries to a host of players to see off Sochaux relatively comfortably, Gregory Sertic and Yoann Gourcuff putting them two goals ahead by the 14th minute and Marouane Chamakh adding the third in stoppage time.

"The third match of a week is always the most difficult and we didn't ease our task at Rennes, where we put in a lot of effort," added Blanc.

"If we had had the same scenario here, I think we would have struggled to make the difference in the last 20 minutes.

"Despite our injuries, the players have focused on our objective to win this match and create a gap to the chasers behind us."

Bordeaux's goal difference is one less than OM's but both clubs are seven points clear of reigning champions Lyon, who seem to have relinquished their title.

Sochaux, reduced to 10 men late on because of Radiu Afolabi's sending-off, remain 17th and just outside the relegation zone, although they are level on points with third-bottom Nantes.

"We were given a lesson here in how to take your chances and I hope that's going to serve us well in the last four matches," said Sochaux coach Francis Gillot.
