Bundesliga: Draw sees Hertha Berlin drop to third

Title contenders Hertha Berlin drew 1-1 against hosts Hamburg SV on Sunday to drop to third place, four points behind leaders VfL Wolfsburg with four matches left.

Hertha levelled with a fierce 20-metre drive by Serbian midfielder Gojko Kacar after Hamburg took an early lead through Marcell Jansen.

Wolfsburg, who beat Hoffenheim 4-0 on Saturday, lead the standings with 60 points, three ahead of second placed Bayern Munich, 2-1 winners over Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Hamburg remain in fifth place on 55 points, level with VfB Stuttgart who drew 2-2 in Arminia Bielefeld and have a better goal difference.

Hertha and Hamburg surged forward from the start and it took only eight minutes for the hosts to strike through Jansen, who raced ahead of central defender Josip Simunic to flick on an Ivica Olic cross from the left.

Hertha quickly recovered and came close through Marko Pantelic, who released a low drive from the edge of the box that sailed just wide of the post.

Raffael also had a long-range effort fly wide but the Brazilian should have passed to Pantelic, completely unmarked in the box.

The Berliners kept up the pressure in the second half and they finally grabbed the deserved equaliser through a fierce shot from Kacar, after Pantelic controlled a deep ball from Hertha keeper Jaroslav Drobny to set up the midfielder.

Simunic and Drobny did well to block several late attacks from Hamburg, with the keeper making a sensational save in the final minute when he palmed a close-range header from Hamburg's Joris Mathijsen over the bar.
