Israeli champs docked point for fans' racist abuse

Israeli champions Beitar Jerusalem have been docked one point and ordered to play their next match behind closed doors after admitting a charge that fans chanted racist abuse during a league match last month.

Beitar have one of the worst disciplinary records of Israel's top clubs and since 2005 have been found guilty of various offences on more than 20 occasions. They carried a two-point deduction into the current season for a pitch invasion by fans last season.

After the ruling by an Israeli FA disciplinary court on Thursday, Beitar, who have won the league for the past two seasons, are third in the standings on 49 points, seven behind leaders Maccabi Haifa.

The club would appeal against the punishment, a Beitar official said.
