City to move for £18m Madrid winger Robben?

Real Madrid are ready to offload Arjen Robben as he does not feature in the plans of presidential favourite Florentino Perez, with Manchester City ready to pounce.

Reports in the Daily Mirror claim that the former Chelsea winger will leave the Bernabeu in the summer, with Madrid happy to accept a fee in the region of £18m for the Dutchman.

City and Inter Milan have asked to be kept informed of the Dutchman's situation and the Eastlands club are favourites as the player had a difficult relationship with Inter boss Jose Mourinho during their time at Chelsea.

Robben, 25, won the Premier League title with Chelsea and, despite being injury-prone, appeals to City who are desperate for top signings.

Although he has been capable of brilliance this season, his form for Madrid has been patchy and he has never completely settled since his £24m move two years ago.

Real Madrid's main summer transfer target is Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo and they are already preparing to offload Robben's fellow Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart, with City also showing an interest.

The Spanish club, soon to be under new leadership with presedential elections occuring this summer, want to clear the decks and raise finance for another big-money move for Ronaldo, having missed out last summer.
