Bent out for a fortnight

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed striker Darren Bent will be out for at least two weeks after suffering a medial ligament injury.

The 25-year-old forward suffered the problem with his left knee in Saturday's 5-2 Premier League defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford, in which he opened the scoring.

Following a series of scans this week Bent has been instructed to wear a knee brace for a fortnight before specialists make a further assessment.

The £16.6m club record signing has made 29 starts for Tottenham this season and is the club's top scorer with scored 17 goals in all competitions.

Tottenahm manager Harry Redknapp said: "Darren has had a knee problem that will keep him out for several weeks. He will not be around for a while.

"It is a blow for him because he has done well and scored goals. We need him and he needs to play. He has been in good form but what can you do?''

Spurs face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday as they chase a seventh-place finish and the possibility of European football next season followed by a trip to Everton on May 9.
