Wright-Phillips sidelined for Rovers clash

Shaun Wright-Phillips seems certain to miss Manchester City's must-win encounter with Blackburn Rovers at Eastlands on Saturday.

Earlier this week, manager Mark Hughes had expressed optimism Wright-Phillips would have recovered from the ankle injury that has kept him out of City's last three games in time to face Rovers.

However, the problem is yet to disappear, leaving Hughes with little choice other than to rule his winger out.

"Shaun is still feeling a bit of discomfort and it is likely he will miss out," admitted Hughes.

Pablo Zabaleta and Daniel Sturridge are also sidelined by hamstring and hip problems, respectively, while Micah Richards, who limped out of the win at Everton last weekend with a knee injury, is still a concern.

"Micah is still experiencing a bit of pain in his knee," said Hughes.

"He probably won't train and we will keep him indoors in the gym but we are hopeful he will be available."

After finally ending their away-day blues at Goodison Park, City are eager to clinch seventh spot and a place in next season's new Europa League.

Currently in ninth place with four games of the campaign remaining, Hughes' side must also tackle Manchester United, fellow European contenders Spurs and Bolton, as well as his former club, who have endured a difficult campaign following the Welshman's exit.
