Nakamura a doubt for Celtic

Shunsuke Nakamura is an injury doubt for Celtic's Scottish Premier League trip to Aberdeen after suffering a groin injury in training.

The Japan playmaker hurt himself during a light practice session following the club's return from their trip to La Manga and could miss Saturday's game at Pittodrie.

He said in the Daily Record: "Obviously, we have a very important game coming up against Aberdeen so I hope I'll be okay to play.

"We know that they are a difficult opponent but it's a game we really need to win.

"I've been in some discomfort and my right abductor is pretty sore. We'll see how it goes this week."

Meanwhile, Hoops captain Stephen McManus insists he has not been trying to con manager Gordon Strachan by playing through the pain of an ankle injury.

Strachan withdrew the defender at half-time of the 1-1 draw at Hearts almost three weeks ago, accusing him of being too brave for his own good.

McManus, who has not featured since, said: "I wasn't trying to be brave when I stayed on. I just want to play in as many games as possible.

"The pain just refused to go away when we played Hearts but I've always said the summer is when you recharge your batteries. Until then, you stay at it and keep going full blast.

"It takes a toll on you when you play so many games at a high level. But I wouldn't like to be fresh as we approach the last run. That would mean I'd missed a lot of games earlier in the season."
