Tottenham lose Dawson to injury for three weeks

Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson has suffered a partially torn ankle ligament and is expected to be out for up to three weeks.

The 25-year-old was carried off on a stretcher against Newcastle last weekend after falling awkwardly on his left foot and is now facing a race to be fit for Spurs' final two matches of the Barclays Premier League season.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has Roman Pavlyuchenko out with a back problem as well but striker Jermain Defoe is coming back from a foot injury.

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed they will be competing in the inaugural Wembley Cup in July against Barcelona, Celtic and Egyptian champions Al Ahli.

The two-day tournament at the national stadium will comprise two matches across each day, with Spurs scheduled to face Barcelona in the opening fixture on the Friday, then Celtic on the Sunday.
