Ronaldo on target again as Corinthians reach finals

Ronaldo was on fine form as Corinthians defeated Sao Paulo 2-0 to book their place in the Campeonato Paulista finals.

Ronaldo scored one and set up another in the Sao Paulo state championship clash as 'O Timao' claimed a 4-1 aggregate win to set up a meeting with Santos in the two-legged final.

Douglas put Corinthians ahead after 55 minutes following good play by Ronaldo while the three-time world player of the year increased the advantage two minutes later.

Sao Paulo defender Rodrigo was shown a red card for a foul on Dentinho after 83 minutes.

"I am shocked. It was a marvellous celebration. It was a great day and a great match," said Ronaldo. "I've been told I was like a retired player, but I don't care."

Flamengo took the Taca Rio title by beating 10-man Botafogo 1-0 and will meet the same side for the Campeonato Carioca title in Rio de Janeiro state.

An own goal by Emerson saw Flamengo clinch victory at the Maracana. Botafogo defender Thiaguinho was sent off four minutes from time for a foul on Juan.

Had Botafogo won the Taca Rio, they would have been declared the Campeonato Carioca winners thanks to lifting the Taca Guanabara in the first half of the tournament.

Internacional retained the Campeonato Gaucho trophy in Rio Grande do Sul state with a sensational 8-1 win over Caxias.

Seven goals in the first half were enough for Inter to win the Taca Fabio Koff, awarded to the winners of the second half of the tournament, and took the state cup after an unbeaten 21-game run.

Magrao and Nilmar each grabbed a brace while Andres D'Alessandro, Pablo Guinazu, Taison and Alvaro also weighed in with goals for Inter.

Cristian Borja netted the consolation strike for beleaguered Caxias.

In Pernambuco state, Sport played out a goalless draw with Nautico to win the Campeonato Pernambucano for the fourth time in succession.

In Minas Gerais state, Cruzeiro defeated Ituiutaba 2-1 at the Estadio Mineirao to advance to the Campeonato Mineiro finals with a 6-2 aggregate win.

Cruzeiro will play arch-rivals Atletico Mineiro in the finals.

In the Parana's Campeonato Paranaense, Joao Malucelli beat Cianorte 1-0 with Jucelei scoring the winner.

Malucelli are one point behind final-round leaders Atletico Paranaense, who beat Parana 3-0 on Saturday.

Vitoria edged Atletico Baiano 2-1 in the first leg of the Campeonato Baiano semi-finals with the second leg to be played on Wednesday.

Finally, in Santa Catarina state, a Romulo goal gave Chapecoense a 1-0 win over Avai to book a berth in the Campeonato Catarinense finals against the same team.
