Lazio given April deadline over striker Zarate

Mauro Zarate's brother and agent has confirmed that Lazio have until the end of the month to secure a deal for him, with Premier League clubs showing an interest in the talented Argentine.

The striker, who spent last season on loan at Birmingham City, has impressed hugely since moving to Serie A in the summer, scoring 11 goals this season for the Biancocelesti ; while they have expressed their desire to make his move from Saudi Arabian side Al-Sadd a permanent one.

But Zarate's brother Sergio - who also acts as one of his agents - says the Roman club have little more than two weeks to take up their option on the player.

If they do not agree terms, then other clubs will be allowed to make a move for him - although he insists his brother wants to stay in the Eternal City.

"Mauro wants to continue his Lazio adventure," agent Zarate told Calciomercato. "We will wait for an answer from Lazio 30th until April. The president should have struck a deal with Al-Sadd before that date.

"If this will not happen, we will be free to talk with other sides."

A number of Premier League sides, including Liverpool and Manchester City, are reportedly keen to bring Zarate back to England and have been linked with big-money bids for the striker for months.
