Hiddink tips Pavlyuchenko to play for Chelsea

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink believes Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko is good enough to play for the Blues and insists his talent is being underused at White Hart Lane.

The 27-year-old is a key figure for Hiddink in the coach's other role as boss of the Russia national team, but he has frequently been left on the bench by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp this season.

Despite Pavlyuchenko scoring 13 goals in 31 appearances for the north London club in his debut campaign in England, the Dutchman believes the former Spartak Moscow frontman could do better given the chance.

Hiddink will not be in a position to sign Pavyluchenko, as he is due to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, however he claims the striker can achieve more in English football than he has managed so far.

''Pavlyuchenko is capable of seriously strengthening Chelsea's attack, to add both power and pace,'' Hiddink said in an interview with the Svpressa website.

''I used to call him a sleeping giant. Since he began playing for Tottenham, he began to think more quickly on the field and he is now playing better.

''It's a pity that the club (Tottenham) keep him in reserve. I would never do that. A talented player like Roman must play, play and play again.

''I think Pavlyuchenko would prove useful to Chelsea.''
