Napoli will not sign Fabio Cannavaro in the summer once the veteran defender becomes a free agent.
The Italy captain whose contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season, is looking for a club and has been linked with a move to Manchester City.
However, 35-year-old Cannavaro will not be granted the opportunity to end his career with his home club Napoli.
"Cannavaro will not come to Napoli," said Napoli club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. "His contract with Real Madrid ends and he will find another place but not with us.
"A 35-year-old striker can play but a defender of that age can't because in defence you have to run much more."
