CARSON, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Galaxy waived five players Wednesday, including last season's top goaltender Steve Cronin, and trimmed their preseason roster to 27.
Defenders Brandon McDonald, Mike Randolph and Troy Roberts and midfielder Ely Allen also were waived.
Cronin made a career-high 22 starts last season, compiling a 6-9-6 record with a 2.05 goals against average before missing the final two months of the season because of a fractured right hand.
Roberts played in 61 games for the team, including a career-high 17 last season. Randolph appeared in 39 games over the past two years with the Galaxy, totaling four assists.
Allen and McDonald were drafted by the Galaxy last season, and started strongly before injuries derailed their seasons.
The Galaxy have until March 2 to reduce the roster to 24 players. The team opens the season March 22 at home against DC United.
