Sporting's Liedson to apply for Portuguese passport
Sporting Lisbon forward Liedson is to apply for a Portuguese passport which would qualify him to play for national team.
The Brazil-born player expects to be able to play for Carlos Queiroz's side when the process is completed.
"I have felt Portuguese for a long time because of the love I have from the fans and the history I have at this club. So, because of that, I want to receive my Portuguese passport," he said to SporTV.
The 31-year-old, who has also had spells with Coritiba, Flamengo and Corinthians, arrived in Lisbon in 2003 and has become the club's record goalscorer with 129 goals.
He added: "When I have citizenship and everything is sealed nothing can stop me from playing for the Portugal national team. It is something I have thought about, analysed, and I will have no problem doing it.
"Every player dreams of playing international football, no matter which the country."
