Eredivsie: Van Basten and Ajax stung by Vitesse

The pressure on Ajax coach Marco van Basten moved up a notch this afternoon after his side were thrashed 4-1 at Vitesse Arnhem.

An angry group of supporters gatecrashed training on Thursday to demand an explanation for the recent slump in form from Van Basten and they are hardly likely to have been placated by another poor showing in Arnhem.

Luis Suarez's equaliser to Lasse Nilsson's opener was the highlight of a dismal afternoon for the Amsterdammers, who slumped to defeat thanks to further goals from Dalibor Stevanovic, Nilsson and Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

FC Twente also tasted disappointment after they could only manage a 2-2 draw at lowly De Graafschap to fall 11 points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar.

Blaise NKufo opened the scoring for Twente but Stephan Keller and Luuk de Jong turned the match in the hosts' favour.

NKufo's 83rd-minute penalty ensured a point for Steve McClaren's men.

PSV Eindhoven made it 11 goals in three days after following up their 6-0 thrashing of ADO Den Haag on Thursday with a 5-3 victory at FC Volendam.

Ola Toivonen and Jeremie Brechet put PSV in charge only for Gerson Sheotahul and a Paul de Lange penalty to make it 2-2.

Edison Mendez scored either side of half-time to restore the visitors' two-goal advantage and Otman Bakkal settled the game with four minutes to go.

Rowin van Zaanen netted a late consolation but PSV held on with ease to move within a point of Ajax. Both sides finished with 10 men - Toivonen and Jack Tuyp both seeing red.

There was also a dismissal at De Kuip as Feyenoord battled to a goalless draw against FC Groningen despite the 42nd-minute sending-off of Norichio Nieveld.

ADO Den Haag remain in relegation trouble after a 3-1 defeat at FC Utrecht.

AZ enjoyed a 3-1 home win over Willem II yesterday.

Said Boutahar gave the visitors the lead after 16 minutes but AZ replied with strikes from Moussa Dembele, Maarten Martens and Mounir El Hamdaoui.

Heerenveen are fifth after a 3-1 victory over NAC while NEC Nijmegen drew 1-1 at Heracles Almelo.

Sparta Rotterdam eased their relegation worries as a 1-0 victory at Roda JC left the home side in the bottom three.

The only goal of the game came from Rydell Poepon with 10 minutes remaining.
