Heat to delay to women's soccer friendly

The extreme heat battering Australia's eastern states has forced organisers to delay the kick-off of the women's soccer international between Australia and Italy in Canberra.

The match, scheduled to kick-off at 4pm(AEDT) on Saturday, will now start at 6.30pm(AEDT) after a decision was made in the "consideration of the health and safety of players and match officials".

Temperatures are expected to reach and even exceed 40 degrees celsius in many areas across NSW, Victoria and South Australia on Saturday.
