Long-serving Iraq coach takes over as Jordan boss

Former Iraq coach Adnan Hamad has taken over as boss of Jordan after last week's dismissal of Portuguese Nelo Vingada.

Hamad, who quit Iraq last June because of political squabbles and poor organisation, is tasked with leading Jordan to the 2011 Asian Cup finals in Qatar.

"I'm delighted. It's a big challenge but with hard work, I think we can qualify," the former Asian coach of the year said on Wednesday.

"It's certainly an easier job than coaching Iraq."

Hamad had served four separate stints as Iraq coach.

After two matches, Jordan are currently bottom of Group E, which also includes Thailand, Singapore and leaders Iran.
