Ligue 1: PSG win moves them up to third

Paris St Germain scored two identical goals to defeat Caen 2-0 and climb to third in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Stade Rennes and Toulouse are fifth and sixth respectively on 38 points, one behind PSG, after sharing a 0-0 draw.

PSG went ahead when Caen's under-pressure keeper Victor Plante palmed a shot straight into the path of Guillaume Hoarau in the 49th minute.

Plante then did exactly the same to allow Peguy Luyindula to grab the second goal for the home team in the 58th.

"It was a well-controlled game. We had a lot of opportunities. We missed some of them but it's a good sign for the future," said PSG coach Paul Le Guen.

"We are still in the chasing group. I hope we shall not be content with that."

Fourth-placed Olympique Marseille, also one point adrift of PSG, visit Sochaux on Sunday, the same day as leaders Olympique Lyon host St Etienne and second-placed Girondins Bordeaux entertain seventh-placed Lille.

Lyon against St Etienne is the closest thing to a derby in the French championship, with the two towns only 50-km apart.
