Rukavytsya seeks Dutch transfer glory

Perth striker Nikita Rukavytsya has become Australia's latest soccer export after the Glory accepted an offer from Dutch first division side FC Twente for the 21-year-old's services.

Rukavytsya, who plundered 10 goals for the Glory this season, trialled with FC Twente earlier this month and impressed the Dutch giants with his scintillating pace and deadly left foot.

The Glory received an offer for the Ukraine-born striker just before Saturday's 4-2 loss to Queensland and after further negotiations, agreed on a transfer fee.

"The negotiations were conducted in good spirits and both Perth Glory and FC Twente have come out as winners in this deal," Glory chief executive Scott Gooch said.

"Nikita is an exceptionally talented young player and expressed a strong desire to play in Holland and we have worked diligently to help facilitate that opportunity for him.

"While we're sorry to see such an outstanding talent leave our club, we can be proud of the role Perth Glory has played in his development and wish Nikita all the best as he fulfills his dream of playing in Europe."

Rukavytsya has already departed Perth for Holland where he will meet up with his new FC Twente teammates, who are managed by former England boss Steve McClaren.

FC Twente currently sit third on the table.

"Nikita is a fantastic kid and has a huge career ahead of him," Glory coach Dave Mitchell said.

"He works hard and has the talent and desire to make it in Europe.

"The Dutch league will suit him very well and I look forward to seeing his progress and hope he is given the opportunity to play and show what he is capable of producing on the football pitch."
