Marquez could sit out qualifier with muscle strain
BARCELONA, Spain -- Mexican defender Rafael Marquez strained a leg muscle while playing for Barcelona, raising doubt whether he will be able to play in next month's World Cup qualifier against the United States.
The 29-year-old left Barcelona's 0-0 tie against Espanyol after just 10 minutes Wednesday night. A scan performed after the Copa del Rey match revealed the strain, and Barcelona said he will be sidelined for two weeks.
Mexico starts the final round of World Cup qualifying in the North and Central American and Caribbean region when it played the United States on Feb. 11 in Columbus, Ohio.
