Danish kid Nielsen to quit Chelsea for Celtic

Danish youngster Morten Nielsen is ready to quit Chelsea and join Celtic, according to his father and agent.

Nielsen, 18, who visited the Hoops' Lennoxtown training complex last week, has six months of his Stamford Bridge contract remaining.

Father Benny claims his son has been offered a three-year extension by the English club but is set to reject the new deal in order to join the Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions in the summer.

He told the Scottish Sun: "Morten's first choice is Celtic. The people were nice to him and the stadium is beautiful. I was with Morten last week at Celtic. We had talks and we hope to have more this week.

"Other clubs are interested in Morten, but he has told me he wants to sign for Celtic. Chelsea have offered a three-year contract, but he doesn't want to sign it. Young players never get into the first team there and he wants to take the next step and train and play with a first team.

"His Chelsea contract is over on July 1 and, hopefully, we can speak more with Celtic."

Meanwhile, Championship club Burnley have revealed they are waiting to hear if Celtic will let them take Republic of Ireland Under-21 captain Darren O'Dea on loan for the rest of the current campaign.

O'Dea, 21, has been a fringe player for the Hoops since making his first-team debut in 2006.

Burnley assistant manager Sandy Stewart told the Daily Telegraph: "We've inquired about Darren and we're waiting for a response from Celtic.

''Celtic won't entertain a permanent move for him but we're hoping to get the okay to bring him down here.

"At the moment, we have only five defenders for four positions and we've already played 38 matches this season so we need to bring someone else in."
