Mitchell warns Rukavytsa over Dutch trip

Perth coach David Mitchell has admitted he is unsure if winger Nikita Rukavytsya will be seen in Glory colours again.

Rukavytsya missed Glory's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday after heading to Holland for a month-long trial with FC Twente, who are coached by former England manager Steve McClaren, but Mitchell has warned the 22-year-old a permanent move could see him spend a lot of time on the substitutes' bench.

"I'm not sure if we will see him again, he has gone over there and I am not sure how he has got on, but he is a quality kid and good player," said Mitchell.

"But if he wants to go over there then he will probably have to sit on the bench for six months before he cracks into the team.

"For him personally it will be difficult to play reserve team football and I think if you are to leave a club then it is important that you are playing football regularly.

"But his agent is eager for him to go overseas and the belief is there that if he doesn't take it now then he may not get another chance which is how they look at it sometimes.

"From my point of view and the club's point of view he needs to play regularly but he may go over there and blitz it and then it would be a good move but it hard to see that happening initially.

"He's quick, a good goalscorer but has a lot to learn in the game as well but he knows that so he's working on certain aspects of his game such as what to do when he hasn't got the ball and he has worked hard to improve."

However, Mitchell is confident of keeping Dutch winger Viktor Sikora at the club after an impressive month-long spell since joining from Dallas Burn in the US Major Soccer League.

"We are still in negotiations to sign him up for next year," said Mitchell.

"I know him personally quite well and he has indicated that he wants to stay; we have offered him a contract and it is just a matter of him sitting down and going through it and by next week we should know."
