AC Milan defender Kakha Kaladze fears he could miss the rest of the season if his troublesome left knee requires an operation.
The 30-year-old Georgia captain will head to Belgium for a consultation on Monday to determine whether he requires surgery to remove damaged meniscus
"I have a small but painful back part of a knee meniscus. There is inflammation, the meniscus is seriously damaged," he said.
"I first suffered from this problem when I was 17 years old and playing in my homeland with FC Samtredija.
"A medical examination awaits in Belgium on January 19. If there will be an operation, that for me is the season ended."
Kaladze, who has won 50 caps for his country, joined the Rossoneri from Dynamo Kiev in January 2001.
Last summer he signed a new contract to remain with Milan until 2010.
