SANDY, Utah -- Real Salt Lake has signed coach Jason Kreis to a three-year contract extension.
Real is coming off the franchise's first playoff berth after going 10-10-10 in Kreis' first full season as coach. Salt Lake reached the Western Conference finals.
General manager Garth Lagerwey said in a release Wednesday that Real has made great progress under Kreis, who was entering the final year of his contract, and keeping him as coach was important to the club's continuity.
Kreis, the first 100-goal scorer in Major League Soccer history, retired as a player and took over as coach early in the 2007 season.
