Confident A-League newcomers Gold Coast United have confirmed Socceroos star Jason Culina will be their marquee signing before claiming they will not only win the premiership on debut but also go through undefeated.
Gold Coast chairman, mining magnate Clive Palmer, made the bold call after confirming Culina would depart Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and link with the A-League debutants on a three-year deal.
"Some people scoffed when we said six months ago how we intend to win the A-League in our first season," Palmer said on Wednesday.
"Since then we have set about building a squad and team to achieve our aims."
Culina, 28, has 36 Socceroos caps.
Palmer backed the newcomers to go through their first competition undefeated on the way to a maiden premiership.
Palmer also asked the A-League to "reform itself" and create salary cap benefits and concessions for clubs to help bring back more Socceroos to the national competition.
"I am calling for the A-League to be more expansive, to encourage clubs with incentives to bring back Socceroos to the competition," he said.
The club also unveiled their club logo and colours of white, yellow and blue.
The logo features the Gold Coast's iconic beach and high rises.
