Mexico international Gerardo Torrado's move to Espanyol could be put on hold as his club Cruz Azul want to keep him for another six months.
The 29-year-old this week revealed he is close to signing for the Primera Liga strugglers, but now Cruz Azul are trying to convince him to see out the remainder of his contract.
President Guillermo Alvarez said: "It is convenient for both parties as it means that in six months he would be able to make his dream of playing in Spain come true.
"Torrado's wish is understandable and the club will try to back him so in six months he could play in a better team (than Espanyol).
"He will have to think that at the end of June he will be able to sign for any club he wants."
Torrado previously played for Spanish sides Sevilla and Racing Santander before returning to his homeland in 2005.
