Frings out, Hoffenheim duo in for Germany

Germany coach Joachim Low has called three new faces into an experimental squad for the friendly match with England in Berlin next Wednesday.

Hoffenheim pair Marvin Compper and Tobias Weis have benefited from their side's excellent Bundesliga form to earn their first calls while Wolfsburg's Marcel Schafer is also included in a 20-man party.

The names of Michael Ballack and Torsten Frings are notable by their absence.

Ballack is injured and, like Philipp Lahm, Clemens Fritz, Marcell Jansen and Christian Pander, he will only travel to the capital for a squad meeting on Monday.

Frings is fit, on the other hand, but he told Kicker magazine that he would not be included after the recent row between him and Low.

"I spoke with Joachim Low on the phone and we agreed that I will not be included," he said.

"It was a mutual decision. During the talks we have had over the past weeks I told the coach that maybe it would be better if I did not come along after all the recent drama.

"Low has now told me that he will do just that, also because he wants to try out a few things against England."

Frings' international career was called into question when he was left on the bench for last month's World Cup qualifiers against Russia and Wales.

The Werder Bremen midfielder criticised Low, only to later apologise in a bid to save his Germany future.

And the 31-year-old does not feel this latest exclusion marks the end.

"I am only 31 and I love playing for Germany and have always performed well for the national team," he said.

"I do not want to retire. What I did was wrong and I have apologised to the coach, but the fact is I love playing for Germany.

"I want to go to the 2010 World Cup."

That aim may now be shared with Compper, Weis and Schafer, all of whom could pick up their first caps next week.

"We want to use this last game of the year to try one or two things out and get a few impressions for the new year," said Low.

"The three newcomers have deserved their calls due to their performances."

Meanwhile, Celtic full-back Andreas Hinkel and Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Marko Marin are recalled. Both missed last month's qualifiers due to injury.

Low will welcome his squad in Berlin on Sunday. Preparations for the match will commence on Monday after the Germany coach has spoken with the players and agreed win bonuses for World Cup qualification.

A less pleasant discussion is then planned with Low laying down the rules for the future in a bid to prevent a repeat of recent confrontations with Ballack, Frings and Kevin Kuranyi, whose international career was ended last month when he walked away from the squad.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Rene Adler (Bayer Leverkusen), Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen)

Defenders: Arne Friedrich (Hertha Berlin), Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen), Serdar Tasci (Stuttgart), Heiko Westermann (Schalke), Marvin Compper (Hoffenheim), Manuel Schafer (Wolfsburg), Andreas Hinkel (Celtic)

Midfielders: Thomas Hitzlsperger (Stuttgart), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Simon Rolfes (Bayer Leverkusen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich), Piotr Trochowski (Hamburg), Marko Marin (Borussia Monchengladbach), Tobias Weis (Hoffenheim)

Forwards: Mario Gomez (Stuttgart), Patrick Helmes (Bayer Leverkusen), Miroslav Klose (Bayern Munich), Lukas Podolski (Bayern Munich)
