Red Bulls D Carlos Mendes has hernia surgery
SECAUCUS, N.J. -- New York Red Bulls defender Carlos Mendes had surgery in Germany on Thursday to repair a sports hernia.
Mendes is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks. He probably will miss the rest of the season unless the Red Bulls make the playoffs and advance beyond the first round.
Mendes made 17 appearances and 10 starts for the Red Bulls on defense and in the midfield. The Mineola, N.Y., native has played in 95 games for New York in four seasons.
