HSV defender Atouba out for ''several months''

HAMBURG, October 24 (Bundesliga) - Hamburg defender Timothee Atouba has been ruled out for several months after tearing his Achilles tendon.

The full-back picked up the injury to his left Achilles late in his side's 2-1 UEFA Cup win at Zilina on Thursday.

An MRI scan on Friday confirmed the extent of the injury.

Hamburg team doctor Oliver Dierk told the club's official website: ''Timothee will have to rest for several months.''

The Cameroon international will undergo an operation in the coming days.

Coach Martin Jol added: ''That is a bitter piece of news for Timi - and of course for us as well.

''He had shown in the recent games that he is an excellent left-back.''
