Dowie sacked as boss of Queens Park Rangers

Ian Dowie has been sacked as manager of Championship side QPR after the club terminated his contract with immediate effect.

Dowie, who took over the reins at Loftus Road in the summer from previous boss Luigi de Canio, oversaw 15 matches in charge in all competitions and leaves the club in ninth place in the Championship.

A statement on the club's official website announced the decision, although it said the club would be making no further comment at this stage.

The decision comes after reports of in-fighting among the club's owners.

Millionaire chairman Flavio Briatore was reported to be furious at vice-chairman Amit Bhatia - the son-in-law of and front man for Lakshmi Mittal - after he told fans he planned to reduce ticket prices.

Bhatia revealed publicly that the £50 and £40 category A and B tickets for Championship matches at Loftus Road would be scrapped with immediate effect, claiming in a statment:

''Many of you [the fans] don't need the added burden of higher ticket prices at select fixtures,'' he said.

''Your despair was warranted and justified. So please be assured that with immediate effect and until the end of the season, we will have no category A or B fixtures and tickets for all home fixtures at Loftus Road will be category C. We stand corrected on the ticket price increases.''

However, Briatore was reported to have been angry at the fact he had been undermined by his vice-chairman and a meeting over the future of the club may have set the seal on Dowie's position as well.

Dowie was also reported to have clashed with Briatore over the club's transfer policy earlier this season, with the likes of 34-year-old ex-Italy midfielder Damiano Tommasi brought in on a one-year contract but yet to make an appearance.

Briatore's contacts are also thought to have secured the signings of Daniel Parejo, on loan from Real Madrid, and Emmanuel Ledesma from Fiorentina, but neither have been in the starting line-up recently.

The former Charlton and Coventry boss had already been under pressure from Briatore to get them promoted to the Premier League but after winning just one of their last six games, it appears Briatore's patience wore thin.

Coach Gareth Ainsworth has been appointed Caretaker Manager on a temporary basis and will take charge of First Team affairs for Saturday's trip to Reading.

Former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has already been linked with the role.
