New Nice stadium to be finished by 2013

Nice have announced that building work will start in 2011 on a new 40,000-seater stadium which will cost an estimated €100 million.

The work is expected to be completed by the summer of 2013 and the stadium will be used in Euro 2016, should France be awarded the rights to host the tournament.

Club president Maurice Cohen said: "Certainly there is a long delay but the mayor wanted to have as many guarantees as possible that we will not experience again what has already happened twice, when appeals overturned projects that were about to start.

"It is a long way away but at least the machine is set in motion and today we have a true perspective of things."

Nice will also have a new training centre, costing an estimated 10-15m euros, by 2011.
