D.C. United's Moreno retiring from Bolivian team

WASHINGTON -- D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno is retiring from international soccer and will play his last game for Bolivia this week.

"The time has come for me to say 'goodbye' to the Bolivia national team after 17 years," the 34-year-old Moreno said in a statement released Monday by D.C. United. "It's time to step aside and let the new group of young Bolivian players take over."

Moreno's final appearance for his country will be Wednesday in an exhibition against El Salvador at RFK Stadium, where United plays its MLS home games.

He has 11 goals in 73 games for Bolivia and was a member of its 1994 World Cup squad.

Moreno is the leading scorer in MLS history with 122 goals. He also has 99 assists.
