Real Betis winger Mark Gonzalez will be out of action for more than three months after being injured on international duty.
The Chilean was stretchered off and rushed to hospital 15 minutes into his country's historic victory over Argentina on Wednesday following a violent collision with Nicolas Burdisso.
Betis confirmed on Friday that the 24-year-old will be sidelined for at least three months after suffering a blow to the head and twisted knee ligaments.
"The worst news has arrived from Chile," read a statement on the club website, www.realbetisbalompie.es. "Doctor Carlos Montes has confirmed to Real Betis' medical staff that Mark Gonzalez suffered a third degree sprain in the inside ligament of his right knee.
"With this injury and with the expectation of seeing the player up close in Seville, the recovery time is estimated at three months.
"The club has already sent Mark all our support to face this difficult situation."
