Eredivisie: Gronigen demolish Den Haag to go top
FC Groningen swept aside ADO Den Haag 3-0 today to reclaim their place at the top of the Eredivisie in convincing fashion.
Groningen were knocked off their perch when PSV Eindhoven beat De Graafschap yesterday, but goals from Petter Andersson, Evgeniy Levchenko and Marcus Berg put them on their way to an instant return.
A Matthew Amoah double helped NAC Breda post a 4-2 victory at winless FC Volendam, while Heerenveen ran out 5-2 winners against Ajax in an entertaining encounter at Abe Lenstra Stadion.
The home side were 2-0 ahead after just eight minutes thanks to strikes from Gerald Sibon and Roy Beerens.
Sibon's second (51) and a Danijel Pranjic penalty (63) put Heerenveen even further in front, but Ajax salvaged some pride through Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and a Luis Suarez penalty.
However, Ajax's misery was completed when Gregory van der Wiel was given his marching orders in the last minute before Pranjic added another goal to wrap up the points for the hosts.
FC Utrecht moved a point behind FC Twente after ending their opponents' unbeaten record in a 3-0 victory and NEC Nijmegen secured their first win since the opening day of the season with a 2-0 success over struggling Feyenoord.
