TEAM OF THE MONTH - SEPTEMBER 2008

GOALKEEPERS: Columbus' Will Hesmer has been one of the most solid goalies in the league all season. With the Crew currently riding high in the East, it's no surprise that Hesmer was the top point-getter in September with 13 points. Colorado's Preston Burpo is an under-the-radar pickup that you can get for cheap, and had a strong month (11 points).

DEFENDERS: The undoubted star of the month was Colorado's Mike Petke. Not only did the Rapids' defense record three shutouts for the month, but Petke chipped in with two goals as well for a robust 25 points. The Crew's Chad Marshall has rebounded from a down year to lead a stingy Crew defense. Columbus conceded only two goals in four games and registered two shutouts in September.

MIDFIELDERS: With Guillermo Barros Schelotto sidelined by injury, September saw the emergence of some new fantasy stars in midfield. FC Dallas' Brazilian Andre Rocha found himself out of Schellas Hyndman's doghouse and was in sparkling form, producing two goals and 22 points. The Wizards maintained an outside shot of reaching the playoffs with an offensive surge, largely prompted by the return of Davy Arnaud who had 21 points in September.

STRIKERS: The hottest striker in the league right now is well-traveled journeyman Jeff Cunningham, who's been a standout pickup by FC Dallas. Cunningham had three goals in September for the Hoops. Ex-Norwich star Darren Huckerby continues to shine in MLS, carrying the Earthquake's offense. In September he had three goals in three games from the wing.
