Park Ji-sung has earned a national recall after being named in South Korea's 29-man preliminary squad for their World Cup qualifier against United Arab Emirates on October 15.
The Manchester United star was omitted from the team that drew 1-1 with North Korea in September as he was returning from injury.
Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Lee Young-pyo, now of Borussia Dortmund, also returns but Fulham's Seol Ki-hyeon and Monaco's Park Chu-young have been left out.
"Lee Young-pyo has lots of experience and is adapting to Germany well," said coach Huh Jung-moo after returning from a trip to watch his overseas-based players.
"Park Chu-young needs a little more time to get used to his new club and league."
West Bromwich Albion's Kim Do-heon suffered serious knee ligament damage against Middlesbrough last weekend and will not make the trip while Lee Chun-soo is also injured.
Coach Huh has called up a number of new faces with the Jeonbuk Motors pair of Lim Yoo-hwan and Kim Hyeung-beom and Jung Sung-hoon and Park Hee-do of Busan I'Park rewarded for their recent good form in the K-League.
Park Hyeon-beom of Suwon Bluewings could also make his international debut.
"There are a lot of players who are improving in the squad and we also have players with experience," added Huh.
South Korea will face Uzbekistan in a friendly four days before the match against UAE, who are bottom of Group One with two defeats in as many two games.
