Germany and South Africa confirm friendly

Germany will interrupt their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign with a game against the tournament hosts South Africa on September 5 2009.

The friendly international will be the official opening fixture at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen's newly-renovated BayArena and comes just four days before Germany host Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier.

"That is a very interesting game in which two aspects will be under the microscope," said Germany coach Joachim Low.

"Firstly, it is attractive to play against the World Cup hosts, and then it is always important to measure yourself against African opposition."
