Injured Petrov named in Bulgaria World Cup squad

SOFIA, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Bulgaria coach Plamen Markov included injured winger Martin Petrov in his 20-man squad for next month's 2010 World Cup Group Eight qualifiers against Italy and Georgia.

Petrov missed Bulgaria's opening qualifier against Montenegro on Sept. 6 due to a knee injury but is expected to recover in time for the October qualifiers.

Bulgaria will be definitely without injured Manchester City striker Valeri Bojinov and Croatian-born defender Igor Tomasic who announced his retirement from the national team last week.

Bulgaria host Italy on Oct. 11 and visit Georgia four days later.

Goalkeepers: Dimitar Ivankov (Bursaspor), Georgi Petkov (Levski Sofia).

Defenders: Zhivko Milanov (Levski Sofia), Stanislav Manolev (Litex Lovech), Valentin Iliev (Terek Groznyi), Alexandar Tunchev (Leicester City), Ivan Ivanov (CSKA Sofia), Lucio Vagner (Levski Sofia), Mihail Venkov (Litex Lovech)

Midfielders: Stilian Petrov (Aston Villa), Stanislav Genchev (Vaslui), Chavdar Yankov (Hanover 96), Stanislav Angelov (Energie Cottbus), Blagoy Georgiev (Slavia Sofia), Velizar Dimitrov (Metalurg Donetsk)

Strikers: Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United), Martin Petrov (Manchester City), Ivelin Popov (Litex Lovech), Zdravko Lazarov (CSKA Sofia), Dimitar Rangelov (Energi Cottbus)
