Eredivise: Ajax win ahead of Feyenoord clash

AMSTERDAM, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Belgian Thomas Vermaelen struck nine minutes into the second half to give Ajax Amsterdam a 1-0 home win over Roda JC Kerkrade in the Dutch league on Sunday.

Swedes Andreas Granqvist and Marcus Berg scored either side of the interval to earn Groningen a 2-0 win over Utrecht and steer them to the second place in the table.

After two matches, newcomers ADO Den Haag, 3-0 winners against a 10-man AZ Alkmaar on Saturday, are top with six points, leading on goal difference from Groningen, PSV Eindhoven and Willem II Tilburg.

Feyenoord, 5-0 home winners against Volendam on Saturday, and Ajax are respectively eighth and ninth and will meet next Sunday in Rotterdam.

NAC Breda dominated the first half against neighbours Willem II though they wasted a handful of chances.

After the break Frank Demouge broke the deadlock for the visitors and he doubled the lead from the penalty spot before Ibad Muhamadu sealed the victory from close range.

Matthew Amoah gave the hosts a consolation goal two minutes from time.

In the other derby on Sunday, Jason Oost converted a 19th-minute penalty for Graafschap Doetinchem to beat Vitesse Arnhem.
