Ribery targets return in Champions League

Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery hopes to play some part in next week's Champions League match at Steaua Bucharest.

Bayern travel to Cologne on Saturday as the Bundesliga resumes after the international break, but the game will come too soon for France star Ribery.

He told kicker: "I would naturally want to join in, but I still need about two weeks to be 100%."

Despite that assessment, the 25-year-old still hopes to travel to Romania with the squad next week and even play some part in Wednesday's match.

"[I hope] at least to be included in the squad," he said.

Ribery tore ankle ligaments in France's Euro 2008 defeat to Italy back in June, but finally returned to full training with the Bayern squad on Tuesday.

He said: "I am very glad that I'm back with the team. I'm now well after the five, six weeks of working alone with the physios worked."

Both club and country have struggled in Ribery's absence, with Bayern claiming just one win from their first three Bundesliga games and France losing their opening World Cup qualifier to Austria on Saturday.
