Cal 3-0 Missouri: Pellegrini blanks Tigers

No. 21 California defeated visiting Missouri, 3-0 at Edwards Stadium. With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 3-1 overall and avenged last season's 4-0 loss to Missouri while the Tigers drop to 1-2.

"Missouri beat us badly last year and the team needed the win for their confidence. As we move forward, it proves that we can compete with very good teams because Missouri is a first-class organization -- they're well coached and very, very good and are a very difficult team," said Cal head coach Neil McGuire. "Today, everyone rolled up their sleeves and worked hard together."

Cal took the lead through sophomore forward Lisa Kevorkian after 18 minutes. Senior midfielder Nikki Schrey extended the lead with eight minutes to go in the first half and Alex Morgan scored the third in the 85th minute.

The Bears out-shot the Tigers 13-10 while both teams had six shots on goal. Cal goalkeeper Gina Pellegrini had six saves between the posts and Missouri's Tasha Dittamore had two.
