No. 14 UCLA lost to defending NCAA champion and top-ranked Wake Forest, 3-0, during the Demon Deacons' home opener in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Bruins were unable to capitalize on 12 shot opportunities, while Wake Forest scored three times on 17 shots.
The Demon Deacons scored early on a header by Lyle Adams after just two minutes and doubled their lead on Marcus Tracy's third goal of the season. Wake Forest set the pace in the first half, outshooting the Bruins, 10-4.
In the second half, UCLA came out strong, firing off four shots in the first 15 minutes. However, Wake increased its lead to 3-0 at with a goal by freshman Nick Millington in the 72nd minute. Wake Forest goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald earned his second consecutive shutout by making three saves. Bruin goalkeeper Brian Perk recorded four saves.
