Tauro FC advances to CONCACAF Champions League

CARSON, Calif. -- Luis Moreno scored in the 63rd minute as Tauro FC held Chivas USA to a 1-1 draw and advanced to the CONCACAF Champions League.

Tauro FC advanced to the new-look regional club championship on the strength of a 3-1 aggregate score. Chivas, which played the final 39 minutes with 10 men, became the second MLS team to lose out on a spot in the tournament Tuesday as Trinidad's Joe Public eliminated New England earlier with a 4-0 win.

Chivas dominated the first half but squandered a few early scoring chances. In the 21st minute, the hosts were awarded a penalty kick but Sacha Kljestan sent the ensuing spot kick straight to Tauro FC goalkeeper Dominguez.

In the 36th minute, Atiba Harris knocked a header off the crossbar. Nurse finally opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. Justin Bruan knocked a cross down to Nurse, who turned and fired a shot past Dominguez. The goal was Nurse's first since joining Chivas USA in July.

Chivas' Jonathan Bornstein was sent off in the 51st minute after picking up his second yellow card of the match.

Moreno scored the series-clinching goal after he sliced through Chivas' defense and knocked a ball across the goal line off the left post.

Tauro moves on to a group that also features Mexican club Santos Laguna and Guatemalan side Municipal.
