Derby escapologist Mears agrees Marseille loan

MARSEILLE, September 1 (Ligue 1) - Tyrone Mears has joined Marseille on loan from Derby County just days after he flew out to France for a trial against the wishes of the Coca-Cola Championship club.

Marseille confirmed on their website that Mears had moved to the Stade Velodrome on a season-long loan deal with the option to buy the player outright next summer.

Last week the French outfit proposed taking the defender on two-day trial, with the view to him joining on a free loan, but the Rams described their offer as 'laughable' and 'completely and utterly unacceptable'.

However, Mears decided to travel to Marseille for the trial, despite being under contract at Pride Park for another two years, which left manager Paul Jewell fuming and vowing the 25-year-old would never play for Derby again.

OM have now agreed a fee for Mears, and Derby will receive around 200,000 euros for the loan spell, with a further two million euros to come if the move is made permanent.
