Ballack, Frings back for German qualifiers
BERLIN, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Captain Michael Ballack and his regular midfield partner Torsten Frings will return for Germany in next month's World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Finland.
The two players, who missed Germany's 2-0 win over Belgium in a friendly on Aug. 20 because of injury, were named in a 21-man squad announced by coach Joachim Loew on Friday.
Defender Christian Pander has also been recalled after a bad run of injuries cost him a place at the European Championship in Austria and Switzerland.
Germany, who finished runners-up to Spain at Euro 2008, begin their campaign for a place in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa by playing Group Four qualifiers against Liechtenstein in Vaduz on Sept. 6 and Finland in Helsinki on Sept. 10.
Before those two games, the team will face a Bayern Munich XI in a testimonial for former Germany keeper Oliver Kahn, who retired at the end of last season. That match is being played in Munich on Tuesday.
